Katie Smith, oboe, received her Bachelor of Arts
degree, cum laude, from the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music where
she served as principal oboe in the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Lamont Wind Ensemble.
Her woodwind quintet was awarded the first place in the Lamont School of
Music's Chamber Music Competition; performing "Summer Music" by
Samuel Barber. A former member of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and
the Denver Bach Society Orchestra, she currently performs with the St. John’s
Episcopal Cathedral Festival Orchestra and freelances in the Denver area.
Previously, she was principal oboe of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra,
touring England and Italy. Katie also participated in Le Domaine Forget
Music Festival in Québec, Canada as well as the Music and Sound Program at the
Banff Centre for the Arts. Her teachers have included: Dr. Michael Miller
Professor of Oboe, Western Michigan University, Elaine Douvas Principal Oboe,
Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Rebecca Henderson Professor of Oboe, University
of Washington, and Dr. Richard Killmer, Eastman School of Music.
